Baywood is a residential hamlet in the Town of Islip, tucked between Bay Shore and East Islip along the south shore. The neighborhood has a suburban, settled feel, with most of the homes built between the 1950s and 1970s on streets that back up toward the Great South Bay. These are solid homes, but the combination of age and coastal proximity means the interiors need maintenance that a newer house further inland would not. Preferred Remodeling & Construction Co. provides drywall repair throughout the Baywood area for homeowners who want the work done correctly by people who know this type of housing stock. We are a women-owned business with over 23 years of experience and a crew of seven trained carpenters who handle every job in-house.
Mid-century homes in the Baywood area were built with materials and methods that are now decades old. The original drywall in many of these houses is thinner than modern board, the joint compound from that era has a different composition, and the framing was done to standards that predate current building codes. Drywall repair in these homes requires understanding what you are working with before you start, not just patching over whatever you find.
Our drywall contractor team provides a full range of drywall services to Baywood homeowners and property owners:
Baywood homeowners who have been looking for a drywall repair near me option that actually understands south shore housing, we are the contractor that has been working in this part of Suffolk County for over two decades.
While Baywood is primarily residential, the surrounding area along Sunrise Highway includes commercial properties that require the same standard of work we bring to homes. We provide commercial drywall repair for light commercial spaces in and around the Baywood area. Our construction repair services in commercial settings are handled by the same in-house crew and held to the same standard as our residential work.
When damage or renovation scope goes beyond what a patch can address, we handle full drywall installation and sheetrock installation in Baywood homes. That means the complete process: removing what is damaged, checking the framing, installing new board, taping, drywall mudding and taping, and finishing through primer. One crew handles it from start to finish.
Ceiling drywall repair in Baywood's mid-century ranches and capes is a frequent call for us. These homes have original ceilings that were done with materials and techniques from fifty or sixty years ago, and they show it. Add in south shore moisture exposure and the occasional roof leak or plumbing issue above a finished ceiling, and ceiling repair becomes a regular part of maintaining these properties. We handle ceiling water damage repair as well, addressing the water-affected material rather than just coating over it.
Drywall mudding and taping is where the quality of any repair is determined. The tape bridges the seam. The compound builds the level surface. If either is done without enough care, the result shows in the paint. We apply multiple coats, allow each to dry fully, and sand between coats to achieve a finish that does not draw attention to itself. That is what a drywall repair should look like when it is done.
Baywood is the kind of neighborhood where people have lived for a long time and take pride in how their homes look. We respect that. Preferred Remodeling & Construction Co. has been in business for over 23 years, and we have been serving south shore communities like Baywood throughout that time. We grew from a single-person operation to a crew of seven, and every step of that growth came from homeowners who were satisfied enough to tell their neighbors.

Homes built in the 1950s through 1970s were constructed with materials and joint compounds that have a different chemical composition than what is used today. Over time, these compounds shrink and crack more than modern materials. Add in decades of moisture cycling from the south shore humidity, and you end up with surfaces that need more maintenance than a newer home further inland.
Yes. Ceiling water damage repair is one of the most common calls we get in Baywood's older housing stock. We assess how far the moisture has traveled, determine whether the board can be repaired or needs to be replaced, and finish the repair properly so it blends with the surrounding ceiling.
Yes. Popcorn ceilings are common in Baywood homes from the 1960s through 1980s. We repair damaged sections and can remove the texture entirely if you prefer a smooth ceiling. If the home predates 1978, the texture material should be tested for asbestos before work starts.
We assess the existing texture and replicate it as closely as possible using the appropriate application techniques. Most applied textures from that era are replicable. If the original surface was a hand-applied plaster skim coat, the match will be close, but we will not tell you it is identical. We give an honest assessment before we start.
Settling cracks in older ranches usually appear at the corners of windows and doors, at wall-ceiling joints, and along long horizontal seams. Wall crack repair in these situations involves more preparation than a simple patch. We clean the crack, apply the right backing material, and finish it in a way that accommodates the minor movement the house will continue to experience.

Basement drywall installation in Baywood involves paying close attention to moisture first. South shore homes at or near bay level can have higher below-grade moisture levels. We assess the conditions before we start, recommend moisture-resistant board where the environment calls for it, and install the material correctly so the finished surface does not fail within a few years.
