Southold stretches along the North Fork with a mix of farmhouses, waterfront homes, and older village properties that go back generations. The homes along Main Road and out toward Arshamomaque have history built into them, and that history shows up in the walls. At Preferred Remodeling & Construction Co. , we provide drywall repair throughout the Southold area for homeowners who want work done properly the first time. We are a women-owned business with over 23 years of experience and a crew of seven trained carpenters who handle every job in-house.
The North Fork's climate is its own thing. Northerly winds off Long Island Sound drive moisture into older homes during the winter months, and the wet springs that roll through Southold year after year create conditions that are hard on drywall joints and ceiling tape. We have been doing drywall repair in Southold and across the North Fork long enough to understand what the environment does to these interiors and how to address it correctly.
Our drywall contractor team provides a full range of drywall services to Southold homeowners and property owners:
Southold homeowners who have been searching for a drywall repair near me option that actually knows the North Fork, we are the contractors with the experience and the history in this area to do the job right.
Southold has a working Main Street, a number of winery tasting rooms, and light commercial spaces spread across the hamlet. We handle commercial drywall repair for these properties with the same level of care we bring to residential jobs. Our construction repair services in commercial settings are scheduled around your business operations, and we communicate clearly throughout the process so there are no surprises.
From full renovation projects to targeted damage replacements, we handle drywall installation and sheetrock installation throughout Southold. The process is complete start to finish: removal of damaged material, framing inspection, board installation, taping, drywall mudding and taping, and all finish coats through primer. We do not leave a job partially done or hand it off to someone else to finish.
Ceiling repair is a regular call in Southold, especially in the older farmhouses and Victorian-era homes that are common through the hamlet. Ceiling drywall repair in these properties often involves multiple layers of material built up over decades of repairs, water intrusion from aging rooflines, and framing that does not run on standard modern spacing. We have dealt with all of it, and we approach each job with an honest assessment of what is actually there.
The quality of any repair, no matter how large or small, is determined by how the drywall mudding and taping is executed. The tape holds the seams. The compound builds the surface. Done properly, the result is flat and invisible under paint. Done poorly, every seam shows. We do multiple coats, allow proper drying between them, and sand to the finish quality the job requires before we consider it done.
Southold is a community that has its own pace and its own set of expectations for the people who work here. We have respected that since we started making runs out to the North Fork years ago. Preferred Remodeling & Construction Co. has been in business for over 23 years, and the growth from a one-person crew to seven carpenters happened because we consistently did what we said we would do.

Older farmhouses on the North Fork were built on foundations that shift with the seasons. The freeze-thaw cycle in Southold winters, combined with the clay-heavy soil in parts of the hamlet, means the ground moves, and the house moves with it. That movement shows up as wall cracks, particularly around door frames and window openings. Wall crack repair in these situations requires understanding what is driving the cracking, not just filling the gap.
Yes. Northerly storms drive rain and wind into older rooflines and around chimney flashings in ways that cause ceiling damage quickly. Ceiling water damage repair in a Southold home involves tracing the leak, assessing how far the moisture has traveled through the ceiling board, and repairing what was damaged. We do not patch the surface and leave the underlying issue for someone else to find later.
We can match most surface finishes. Smooth, light texture, and most applied textures are replicable. Plaster-skim finishes that were common in older North Fork homes take more care to match, and we will give you an honest assessment of what to expect before we start. We do not overpromise on texture matching.
Homes that have been repaired repeatedly often have uneven surfaces with built-up compound from previous work. We assess the existing surface, remove material that is failing or compromised, and bring the area back to a consistent level before finishing. Skipping that step is the reason old repairs show through new paint.
Yes. Popcorn ceilings are still common in Southold homes built in the 1960s through 1980s. We repair damaged sections and can also remove the texture entirely if you prefer a smooth finish. Ceilings that predate 1978 should be tested for asbestos before any disturbance to the surface material.
Basement drywall installation in Southold involves a few specific considerations. Moisture is the main one. We assess the space for any existing moisture issues before we start, recommend moisture-resistant board where appropriate, and install the material correctly so the finished surface holds up over time.
