Oakdale sits on the south shore of Suffolk County along the Great South Bay, with a housing stock that runs from older colonials and capes along Idle Hour Boulevard to newer builds closer to Sunrise Highway. The community is established and the homes are well kept, which means when something needs to be fixed, it needs to be fixed properly. Preferred Remodeling & Construction Co. provides drywall repair throughout the Oakdale area for homeowners who want the work done to a standard they are actually satisfied with. We are a women-owned business with over 23 years of experience and a crew of seven trained carpenters who complete every job in-house.
South shore homes have a moisture exposure that inland properties do not. Proximity to the bay means humidity gets into wall and ceiling assemblies in ways that show up as bubbling tape, soft joint compound, and ceiling staining that returns after a simple repaint. We have been doing drywall repair across the south shore long enough to understand what drives these problems in Oakdale homes and how to address them at the source, not just the surface.
Our drywall contractor team provides a full range of drywall services to Oakdale homeowners and property owners:
Oakdale homeowners who have been searching for a drywall repair near me option with real local knowledge of south shore homes, we are the contractor who has been working in this part of Suffolk County for over two decades.
Oakdale has commercial and light industrial properties along Sunrise Highway and in the surrounding business corridors. We provide commercial drywall repair for offices , professional spaces, and smaller commercial buildings in the area. Our construction repair services in a commercial context are approached with the same attention to quality as our residential work, and we schedule around your business operations when we can.
Whether you are renovating a room or dealing with damage that has gone beyond what a patch can address, we handle full drywall installation and sheetrock installation throughout Oakdale. The process covers everything: removal of the damaged material, inspection of the framing behind it, board installation, taping, drywall mudding and taping, and finish coats. One crew, start to finish.
Ceiling drywall repair in Oakdale 's older homes frequently involves bay-side moisture that has worked through rooflines or around plumbing penetrations over years. We assess the full extent of the damage before touching the surface, which is the only way to make sure the repair actually holds. We also handle ceiling water damage repair for homes that have had plumbing failures above finished ceilings, a common situation in older two-story colonials in this area.
Every repair and every new installation stands or falls on the drywall mudding and taping stage. The tape bridges the seams. The compound fills and levels. Done correctly, the finished wall shows nothing. Done incorrectly, every seam and every joint telegraphs through the final paint coat. We take the time to do it right, which means multiple coats, proper dry time between them, and sanding stages before we call the surface ready.
Oakdale homeowners tend to know their neighbors, and referrals travel fast in a tight community like this. That has been true for us across south shore Suffolk County for over 23 years. Preferred Remodeling & Construction Co. started as a one-person operation and grew to a crew of seven carpenters, and that growth came directly from doing the work correctly and treating people fairly.
As a home improvement contractor in Oakdale and across the south shore, we know our name goes with every job we leave behind. That is not a casual responsibility, and we do not treat it that way.
We serve Oakdale and the surrounding south shore communities including Sayville, West Sayville, Bohemia, Islip, Great River, and other parts of central Suffolk County. Moisture vapor moves through wall and ceiling assemblies. In south shore homes in Oakdale that are close to the Great South Bay, that vapor level is elevated for much of the year. Joint compound absorbs moisture, softens, and eventually loses its bond with the tape. The tape lifts, the paint cracks along the seam, and the repair cycle starts. Addressing it correctly means using the right materials for the moisture environment.
Yes. Plumbing leaks above finished ceilings are one of the most common ceiling repair calls we get in Oakdale's two-story colonials. We assess the extent of the saturation, determine whether the board needs to be replaced or can be repaired, and finish it so it blends with the existing ceiling.
Yes. Popcorn ceilings from the 1970s and 1980s are still common in Oakdale's established neighborhoods. We repair damaged areas and can also remove the texture entirely if you prefer a smooth finish. If the home was built before 1978, we recommend testing the texture material for asbestos before any work begins.
Most settling cracks appear around door frames, window openings, and at the corners where walls meet ceilings. Wall crack repair in these situations involves cleaning out the crack, applying the appropriate backing, and finishing it properly. If the cracking is active rather than historical, we will tell you that and advise on what it means for a repair.

Drywall repair addresses damaged sections of existing material: holes, cracks, water damage, and similar issues. Sheetrock installation refers to installing new boards, typically in a room that is being finished for the first time or after damage has gone beyond what a patch can address. We handle both, and the line between them is determined by what we find when we assess the damage.
It depends on the scope of the repair. A small patch may be paint-ready within two to three days once the compound is fully dry and sanded. A larger installation with multiple coats of compound requires more time between coats. We will give you a realistic timeline during the estimate, not a number designed to win the job.
